Artist
Michael Nye lives in San Antonio a few blocks
from the Alamo.
He practiced law for 10 years before pursuing photography full
time. He has had over 70 one-person exhibits in museums and universities
around the country.
He has been a recipient of a Mid-America
National Endowment for the Arts grant in photography, Kronkosky
Foundation grant and a participant in two Arts America tours in
the Middle East and Asia.
He has lectured widely in Morocco, India and many museums and
universities.
He has photographed around the world including
projects in Russian Siberia, Iraq in the first Gulf War, China
and Labrador. His first audio and photographic exhibition "Children
of Children" is touring the United States.
His current exhibition, "Fine Line,
Mental Health/Mental Illness" opened at the Witte Museum
in 2003/2004.
He is presently working on a documentary
"About Hunger".
He is married to poet Naomi Shihab Nye and has one son, Madison.
Presentations:
Michael Nye has given talks and conducted
discussions in a wide variety of settings including: The Middle
East; the American Embassy in Morocco and India; The Stieren Arts
Enrichment Series, Trinity University; The National Conference
of State Legislatures; University of Hawaii and many schools and
museums in this country.
